  What to do

For those of you who enjoy walking in the country air, the village of St. Vallerin is set on a hillside with spectacular views of the surrounding vineyards, and similar pretty villages.  (It’s even possible to see the Alps from the Château on a clear day).  There are many pleasant walks straight from the house through the surrounding countryside and we can provide a booklet showing walks in the area.

There is also a 120km off road cycle path that meanders through the villages and towns of Bourgogne.

Swimming - Specially adapted Lacs des Laives with lifeguards, water toys, paddle boats, manmade beach, restaurant/bar.

In a nearby village ten minutes away, there are riding stables which cater for children and adults aged 7 and above.  In other villages younger children are able to ride.

The area around Saint Vallerin is rich with activities along with the obvious wine culture and tours; there are many other activities on offer throughout the year.  During the summer months, every village in the region will hold some form of fair or event.  Cluny is a picturesque 30 minutes drive way and boasts a beautiful abbey, and a multitude of shops, bars and cafés lined along cobbled streets.  Cluny is famous in France for equestrian activities and so horses form a theme for many of the local events.  Other Châteaux in the region will frequently host special activities throughout the summer.  Most villages and towns have a market day selling locally grown fruits, vegetables, cheeses, breads, meats and poultry.

There are many ‘Artisan’s in our region and it seems that all villages have skilled artists and ceramics whose doors are open to the public daily to view and purchase their work.

This is an ideal area for anyone who enjoys wine.  In the village of Saint Vallerin there are two ‘degustation’ or wine tasting caves where one can taste and purchase locally produced wine.  A walk or short drive takes you to numerous villages offering locally produced wine and tasting caves.

There is also an Acro Parc activity course which is set in the forest at Lacs des laives and the town of Givry.  It is a specially adapted course with ropes etc., and a fully qualified instructor escorts you on the course. Golf courses are within easy access.  There are two within 30 minutes drive and there is a ‘golf pass de Bourgogne’ which highlights the various courses and offers a special package.

Pass Grand Golf de Bourgogne Offers access to five of the most beautiful golf courses in the Burgundy region (Dijon, Beaune, Châlon, Château d'Avoize and Macon). Golfers can also sample the region's charms during their stay, savouring the fine local cuisine and some of the world's best vintage wines.
